no power steering

yesterday the light for power steering came on, you know the one that looks like a steering wheel with an exclamation point next to it. and now there is no power steering. what would cause this to happen. i checked for fuses but they look ok. what to check next??

Fluid?

Code check time.

I looked for the power steering pump but didnt see one. where is it located.

grim_reaper 09-28-2013 04:58 AM

It doesn't have a conventional pump. It has an electric motor as part of the steering rack. Its all computer controlled, hence why I said code check time.

the light doesnt always come on, so I have power steering at time and at times I dont. will it damage anything with me driving with it on? what do you suggest I check now?

actually there is a issue with that, theres two wring harnesses that connect to the rack (also has the electric pump inside) they get water in them and short it out, unplug them clean them out and try it, may need to re-calibrate from steering wheel

where are the two harness located at?

Mike Donovan 10-28-2013 05:34 PM

they are located right under main crack pully i do believe, the are very easy to find. the plug right into the rack

do you happen to have a picture of where this is? do you access it from the top or bottom of car?
