Default Missed my RX 2, bought RX 8. Question on oil metering

Back in 1972 I bought a RX2 and loved it. I decided to relive my youth and just bought an RX8. I have read that the oil metering pump is a common failure and will of course take out the apex seals. If true how do you check the oil pump and is it possible to increase the pumps output? Living in Miami is 5-20 still the best oil to use? It does get hot down here. A non Mazda mechanic told me to run 10-30 in it. All advice gratefully accepted.
Thanks to all,
Richard

Default Oil metering pump

Thanks for the info on type of oil to use in Miami, is there a way to to test the pump? Can anyone recommend a place that sells the service manual ? I realize it is silly but I enjoy reading tech manuals .
Thanks to all
Richard
