Default Idling Question
When i first got my car I noticed it had a bad idle. It would literally kick back in before it died, when I sat in neutral. I took it to the shop and they told me that I had a cracked engine block and within a week i had a reman-engine installed.

I noticed today that my idling is really rough. I sat in a drive thru in neutral and it began to shake more then normal and really sound like it wanted to die. It did it a couple times but always quickly kicked back in. It's hard to explain. But basically it was quite loud and would just go low to high. There are no loose wires nothing missing. I'm hoping that It's nothing major and maybe just something the rx8's do. I was wondering if anyone has the same issues or if this is normal.

This happened after the pulleys, right? You might check your battery condition to see that the smaller pulleys are keeping the batt up to full charge... only a guess.

that type of rough idling is never normal for any engine, if you like to do your own maintenance then visually check plugs and also for loose/cracked/worn hoses and clamps, but i'm thinking dirty fuel injectors or dirty throttle body, that's the consensus here. a saturday or sunday afternoon DIY job. how many miles on the rebuilt engine?

the rebuilt engine has maybe 1-2000 miles if that.

and it doesn't happen all the time just once in awhile. and i've felt this idling before and after the pulleys i'll check the plugs

with that low of mileage it kind of rules out what i previously said. with an engine replacement you should have gotten nearly all new parts and/or cleaned parts. is it still happening? bad gas/ moisture in fuel? now i'd start looking at electrical. did you get a "parts replaced invoice" when the engine was replaced that could give you some clues. i'd still want to know about the fuel injectors, were they cleaned or replaced? was the idle properly set from the gitgo? does it happen cold engine or hot? after short trips or long trips? have you added any fuel additives? does it happen if you've been driving at normal speeds then come to a stop sign and does that cause it to stumble, (momentary rough idle)? there are a couple of sensors that may be acting up. sitting in a drive thru can be a slow process... does the engine heat up more than normal during those waits?

someone said there's a new re-flash TSB out. Maybe i need that done. but upon checking the vin codes mine is before the codes they are calling for. I do not think they touched the spark plug or wires. I'd have to find the paperwork form when they re-did my engine and tranny in order to tell you that. it happens when the engine is warm mostly short trips no fuel additives. Though i've heard of this "premix" thing that i do not understand what-so-ever. I really don't notice anything heating up. Everything looks fine. It just starts to idle rough out of the blue. I've allready did the ecu reset where i pump the brake several times within 20 seconds and wait for the oil guage to move

don't know

when i started my car this morning after work i heard a small ticking noise. I drove it home just fine and let it sit. I re-started it again the small ticking noise was gone but now the idle sounds unusual. I took two videos one from the engine and one from the exhaust to show others the noises i'm hearing. I was wondering if anyone has any idea what it could be. If you listen closely you can hear it in the first link under my hood i zoomed in on the pulley to show that I don't think the pulleys are causing it. I don't think it's the intake either. If you listen carefully you can really hear it on the exhaust link. If i'm over analyzing let me know. I am hopeing this is something 8's just do.

It happens when the motor is warm and after short trips? Sounds like the motor may be trying to flood -- those are the conditions that create flooding problems. Do you find that it starts a little harder if you switch it off after one of these episodes?
