Default hello, looking into an rx-8

hello there! my name is jc new member here looking into buying an rx-8.

im 19 going on 20, currently own an Audi A4 1.8T w/ stage 2 mods.

car im looking at right now is an 05 White Shinka 6spd. just wondering what i should be looking for when i go to check it out. anything in particular i need to know?

also just thought id get some input from other members on what they think about the car. what i should know.

im most likely going to mod it, so whats some good companies out there and whats some good first mods. most likely gonna be exhaust intake tune.

the first two posts on this thread https://www.mazdaforum.com/forum/mazda-rx-7-33/got-looking-my-first-rotary-what-expect-15989/ apply to all rotary. the shinka is a great model and rx8's handle like a dream. changing to RWD will definitely change your outlook on cars.

since you are into germans, the price of mods shouldn't be a huge sticker shock to you on the rx8. they do cost a little more to modify, but no more than the audi. i have a friend who can get you a header for the 8 for cheap. other than that, here are a couple of sites;

http://www.corksport.com/
http://www.rx7.com/
http://www.mazdatrix.com/

the guy who makes the headers is a personal friend of mine. i would have to pm you his info if you are interested.

i have a 2010 rx-8 that i thought about 3 1/2 months ago, the ride is great and it handles great, it does eat oil though so you'll have to check the oil level i'd say about every 1,000 miles just to be safe. I added a quart of oil in mine at about 1500 miles.

be careful with the rear wheel drive also, if you've never driven rear wheel before i recommend taking it easy for a while, while you get used to the car, especially in wet conditions. The car is also useless in the snow, you may have to borrow a car or something if you dont have another to use if its snowing.

I'd recommend the car though, its a great car.

thanks for the info. yeah i saw in the thread wsoape281 posted about them eating oil. ill have to get a pattern down i guess..

ive driven a few rwd cars, but not daily, only for a few min lol. yeah im sure in the snow it will suck. think if i got some decent snow tires it would be better?

anyone know the stock GTF on these cars? my audi is currently slammed lol,

these cars look low to begin with, but dropping it more with some 18s or 17s might give it a nice look too.

i cant wait to get into one of these its gonna be a whole different world from the audi. plus i bet maintaince is a lot easier. just did the timing belt and waterpump on my audi a few days ago. took 2 days to do. only cause we had to rip the front end appart almost completely.

im used to paying out the *** for parts right now so it shouldnt really be much of a difference, plus coming from a german to japanese car, the parts shouldnt really be nearly as much.

for those who are wondering
heres a link to the shinka i might be picking up soon.

The shinka should come on 18's stock, so you should be able to go up to 20's with room left. An 18f and 19r stagger package looks pretty good. Another thing that you can do to rwd that was limited by awd.

When I had my omp, I used to check the oil at the gas pump every fill-up. Now, I eliminated the omp and pre-mix oil and gas.
