17mm 6 point socket slipping on wheel nuts

Hey all was taking off wheel nuts on the drivers side to do plug wires , my 17mm impact socket is just slipping around them it feels like it is grabbing the slips and jams on the nut , any ideas to help here .... maybe a 12 point socket or heat on the nuts to expand?

thanks

TONKA it was a legitimate question. Some of our members live in different countries so at times you have to think outside the box so to say to understand there exact post. I also want to point out if you did not know but grim_Reaper is a MAZDA Trained Auto Technician.
There are a few different LUG NUT type that may have been used depending on the wheel package. Knowing which type may help to get an answer to your first question?

The nuts i am talking about are the ones that hold your wheel on. I have since discovered they area spline nut and takes a special key which was not with the car went i bought it.

That makes alot of sense, I couldn't understand earlier why your socket would slip.
