u-joints?

why is it parts stores dont carry u-joints for a 89 RX7 GTU?and at the same time there is no RR info in a Haynes manual about replacing these. who knows what has the same u-joints? cause they clearly dont last forever and look as if they press out to be replaced.

RE: u-joints?

I"m thinking that I heard or read somewhere that these shafts are not user friendly/rebuildable. however, I"m not sure myself.
I"m going to move this thread into the RX section so that our rotary members w/more experience than I have might have a better chance to see this and answer your question more accurately than I am capable of.

you just realized a small down fall of our cars, the driveshaft must be replaced when the u joints go bad. the good news of this is that the drivetrain is more stout with less weight than it could be. the other good news is that mazdatrix now sells driveshafts that have replaceable u joints. here is the link; http://www.mazdatrix.com/g9.htm

Yep U-joints are not replaceable. You either have to buy a new driveshaft, or go to a rebuilder & have them put replaceable units in.

I did this...

You don't have to blow your money on Mazdatrix stuff, when you actually can replace them. Toyota & Nissandid the same thing with some of their driveshafts. No idea why.
