Default shifter boot repair

85 RX7, the boot for the shifter is pushed down, most of the older cars I've looked at has the same problem. All the tiny little **** that hold the rubber boot on are broken. Any good repairs for this common problem?

Default RE: shifter boot repair

Found the same problem when I took it apart to rip my wiring harness out. I have not looked at it very carefully yet, but I am going to fabricate a ring out of aluminum with all the appropriate holes and mount it to that..........somehow. Once again, I will look at it and let you know if I come up with an alternate (better than factory) way of securing it.
