Default RX-7 hybrid

Not an RX guy so perhaps this has already been thrown out as an idea.

Rotary, not a lot of torque, but love high RPMs. Sound great up there too. Inefficient.
Battaries, lots of torque, not efficient at top end, Efficient at low speed, etc.

Couldn’t combining these two techs work great together? I’m thinking in a Konigsegg Regera-esque powertrain (I believe the Honda Accord Hybrid actually worked this way too, but with a CVT), in which power is slowly handed over from the electric powertrain to the combustion engine as you accelerate.

is that insane?

I know they’re talking about using the rotary as an i3 style generator, but this would be more performance oriented.
