Default engine replacement
would it work to put a 92 mazda mx3 gs 1.8L V6 in a 1979 mazda rx7 body without a lot of frustration

work, yes. without frustration, no. if you want to do a swap, go with an engine and trans out of a later model miata and have a driveshaft built for it. there would be less modification involved.
