Water pump belt and 90k service

From what my mechanic shop has told me, I need a new power stearing-water pump belt in my 2002 Protege5. If that belt were to brake, would my car still run yet overheat and cause my heater to quit working? B/c I waited too long to fix it and while driving the other day, my check engine light came on all of a sudden but the car continued to drive just fine. A few miles later I realized that my temp. gauge was off the charts, sh*t I thought, and I noticed that my heater was no longer working. Anyway, I'm hoping that is the issue, I'll know for sure tomorrow when I take it to the shop. Lesson learned, fix things quickly when they are pointed out. The car startsup just fineso I'm pretty sure I didn't do any other damage, which is good.

Also, what is normally done to the car during it's 90k service?

Thanks.

yeah man your water pump is what keep your engine cold your pump pushes all your antifreeze through your engine. at 90 k service i had my timeing belt done, accesorie belt, and basic little stuff you should check such as spark plugs, spark wires, filters, fuel filter.

RE: Water pump belt and 90k service

so as it turns out,i need a new radiator.where the radiator cap screws into the top of the radiator is jacked up. two different shops say that they have never seen this before. the molded plastic part that the cap screws into has been chipped away, for lack of a better word. and now it no longer seals.basically what should be flat all the way around issomehow now tappered in. and since it is all one piece of the radiator as a whole, the only way to fix it is to replace the radiator. and from their best guess they think it was afreak malfunction from the factory. or i have a really smart enemy...has anyone ever heard of this happening?

Also, my shop quoted me $900 for the 90k service is that normal?
