Have you had the car checked how much if any voltage is present from the alternator while running? Have you had the alternator bench checked off the car to see if it operates properly? Did you get a used or rebuilt alternator? What are you working on?? Need more specifics to be able to help.

i'm working on a '94 protege with 1.8 dohc 16 valve. I just had the alternater checked on car yesterday. They said it was bad even though i just bought it. So i took it off and back so they could bench check it. They then told me it was good. I then replaced the negative cable but its still draining.

Is the charging indicator lit up on the dash while it's running?

You need to check for power at the alternator. The white/black wire should be hot with the key on. The white/green and black/white should be hot at all times. These three wires are located on the back of the alternator. This will isolate a possible fuse or wiring problem and on what circuit.

The three possible fuses are labeled:
"meter" which is a 15A on the inside fusebox
"fuel inj" which is a 30A and "main" which is an 80A on the underhood fusebox. I would not think the main could be a problem as the car runs.
