Default Transmission fill plug

Hello, I have an 03 Mazda protige5 standard transmission. I bought the car a little over a month ago. Shortly after purchasing it, it was brought to my attention that my front wheel bearings were bad. I couldn’t afford a mechanic so I did it all myself. It turned into wheel bearings, hubs, control arms, CV axles, Tie rod ends, brakes and rotors. When I took the cv axle out naturally I lost gear oil. So I took the fill plug out of the transmission and filled it with gear oil. Somewhere in the process either I stripped the inside casing or the previous owners did. Somebody told me I can use silicone to seal it instead of going through the helicoil process. Has anyone done this? Does it hold? Or is it a temporary solution?

Don't use sealer and don't use a helicoil use a TIME-SERT. The cost is greater then a old school helicoil that only "places a band-aid on a cut that needs stitches".
