Swaping 1.8L FP-DE (2000) for 2.0L FS-DE (2001+) - What does it take??
Hi,
I am the owner of a 2000 mazda protege LX w/ 1.8L engine (FP-DE). It take oil like crap and smokes on startup. I beleive vavle seals and rings would probably have to be changed. Rebuilding the engine entirely is to expensive to me (between 2500 and 3000), same if i simply buy a rebuilt one. Solution : buying a used one. Here's the problem. Those 1.8L engines are pretty hard to find 'cause they are not so popular here in canada (quebec). The rare ones i find are high on milleage (often more than mine). I heard the the 2.0L used in 2001-2002 and maybe others (FS-DE) is pretty much the same engine, and it would be easy to find a good one. The thing is, when i'll do the swap, i want everything to fit since the engine come pretty naked, with absolutely no accessories except intake manifold. I want to know what fits and what does not. What does this swap involve? thanks |
Why did this thread never get any where? I should could use all the information that this thread would have collected...
Needless to Say, I have a 00 es. I let my girl take my car for a few days. And the inevitable happened, she blew it. I'm looking for a motor to drop in there asap. I don't have the time or the garage for too much custom work. The fsde is about 200 dollars cheaper and has less miles. My question is; will I end up spending more money and time going with the fsde? But I am loosing patients trying to find the fpde.. Thanks for your time if you're reading this. |
