Screeching noise

Hi guys, I just started getting a screeching noise that sounds like its coming from the belts? I have just changed to of them . (The 2 beside the alternater). It happens most with Im at an idle than give throttle to move. I heard it may be condensation. Anyone know where the noise might be coming from and how to get rid of it.

take the belts off and make sure the pulleys are tight and clean, if so might have to grease them a little at the base..... good luck

thanks

Thanks protege driver, Is that something that I can do myself or do I need a mechanic.

This can also arise from the bearing of a driven accessory, water pump, A/C, servo, alternator etc., or one of the idler pulleys. Listening to it by putting a large screwdriver on its body with the handle against your ear helps pinpoint the source. Careful you don't get your hair caught in the belt drives though because this is distracting !

A couple more things to check out. Did you set up the new belt tensions correctly ? And if new, they might need retensioning after a couple of weeks use.
If you have one, try recycling your air conditioner a few times too. I've never encountered it myself, but I've heard of cases where after a season of not being used, the A/C clutch can do this, and after being cycled for a while, the clutch "cleans itself up" and the noise disappears.
Keep us posted on how you make out.

response to noise

I'll try cycling the air conditioner. i did notice that the noise would go on when the cooling fan went on. Also noticed that when It damp and raining , the noise happens often. I 'll keep you posted .

Noise is gone for the time being. Noticed when damp or raining outside screeching noise returns. going to grease the pulleys a bit and wait for a rainy day to come...later.
