rebuilding 98 1.5
 
wont start,have new cap and rotor. The problem is i did not tag wires does anyone know how they go back on.(rookie mistake I know) . Please help.

Take the valve cover off. Now you can see which cylinder is on the compression stroke. It is the one with both valves closed. That is the cylinder that should be firing. Take the distributor cap off and look where the rotor is pointing. Place your first wire accordingly. Place the others as shown in the Haynes manual.

If you study the Haynes manual carefully you may be able to figure it out without opening the valve cover, saving you the need to replace that gasket.

I just looked at my '98,1.5 and the wires are routed like this:
Cylinder 1 (far left while standing in front of it, or passenger side) connects to socket top back, Nr. 2 connects to bottom back, 3 to top front, 4 to bottom front.
