An out of the ordinary dream?
I have a 1990 mazda familia infini. 1.8ltr semi forged, LSD(limited slip diff), front and rear struts non turbo fuel injected. I have a dream of turning my non turbo 1.8ltr semi forged car into a rear wheel drive turbo 1.8ltr. So I have a couple of questions/theories to run pass the Mazda geniuses on this forum.
Here is my plan...The mazda familia Infini is a rare car built in Japan where only 1000 were ever made. They are the "sport version" of the mazda familia 1.6. The engine is a BP-ZE ( same engine in the GTX minus the turbo set up). Currently this car is stock FWD (front), but my plan is to turn it into a turbo RWD. I can understand that my stock gearbox will not be able to support pressure a turbo puts on it and have seen people talking about MX-5/ Miata gearbox's being far more sturdy. my question is would an MX-5 Gearbox fit my BP-ZE engine easily? From the start of my dream, i only plan to run a maximum of 12psi boost, what other suggestions are out there around this.. And before everyone goes "just buy a mx-5 and turbo it" or "buy something else that is RWD turbo", I am wanting to do something completely different. I want to be different than all these RWD skylines, Silvias etc All feedback is much appreciated |
