The transmissions have two different part numbers. The speed does use the ABS speed sensor signal thru the ABS module for VSS instead of a sensor in the transmission. There is a dummy sensor in place of the real speed sensor on the Speed transmission but I do not know if there is a drive gear inside. Try pulling that dummy sensor out and looking down inside to see if there is a drive gear down inside. You might be able to use the speed sensor out your old trans???

I think you are going to find that is a bigger job then you can possibly imagine. I would seriously look into getting the right trans or an alternative speedo system. To install ABS you are going to need not only control module and hydraulic unit but also all of the brake lines, speed sensors, sensor rings on the axles and possibly axles not to mention the entire harness as I doubt the connectors for any of it is there. The ABS HU/CM alone is a little over $1300.00.

How about alternative speedo. A GPS not only gives your location but most give a pretty darn accurate rate of travel. If you could mount one in your dash so that it was easily readable while driving, you could use it for a speedometer. Just a thought.

What is so special about the Speed trans? It's just a 5 speed overdrive like the ordinary Protege.

well M speed trans has limited slip. NO wheel spin(just about).gears are longer and shifts so smooth. And the trans was $1500. may be i can just use the wheel sensors & wire it to the bcm?

Uh..no. Sorry but that will not work either. VSS signal is input by all four speed sensors to the ABS Control Module, processed and then sent out to the instrument cluster and PCM. The instrument cluster would not be able to process the A/C speed signal waveform into a useable VSS signal. That job is performed by the ABS module under the air cleaner housing area.
