My Mazda Protégé 2000 is in great condition and runs nicely but the air bag light on the dash is blinking; it started suddenly 4 days ago just after a big strom. The mechanic identified the flashing code 1-3. But did not answer me the specific reasons. I also don't have any idea how the faults are detected using this code. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

 

I had the same issue with my 97 Protege. In the long run it turned out to be my alternator. My battery kept dying and I guess when the voltage reaches below a certain threshold the Air Bag light starts to blink. To be sure it is not your battery check the Voltage. When my air bag was flashing the battery voltage was about 11.6 V. Since Alternator wasn't charging it, it continued to drop and keep flashing the AB light.

 

Did you change the alternator, and did this fix the problem? My only started intermittently flashing a couple of days ago. Would like to know prior to spending a fortune on new air bag module.

 

its gone automatically just after a week.....Anyway Thanks for the suggestion...i will check it....
