Default Manual rod change?

Hi, I'm new here. I've recently acquired a 2002 p5 and have been tinkering with it. I'm hopeful you guys can help me with a question. I have alot of slop in the 5 speed and found some good info on here on how to fix it. So I ordered some bushings and went to town on it.

When I got under the car and it would appear I wasn't the first! ( see images). Looks like someone broke the t-rod? If that's what that part is called. This is causing it to move left to right. I found the part (g5p01748y) and ordered it. But I'm unsure how it attaches to the transmission.

I tried google and I've had no luck. Any help would be appreciated!
