Low Beams Do Not Work

Hello all and thanks in advance for any advice you can give me, I have a 1999 Mazda Protege and I noticed that the low beams are not working but the high beams are working (note the high beam indicator is always on), I have checked the fuses and they are fine after reading around it appears like it could be the relay but I am not able to find the correct relay.

If you have any advice or you know where this relay would be it would be greatly appreciated.

The high beam indicator on all time can mean two things. A faulty low/high beam switch or a short in you headlight wiring. Check your headlight plugs to see if they have melted. It is a common problem.

I had the same problem with my Protege 5 - after checking the fuses, relay switch and the bulbs I found out that the switch that turned my lights on and off went bad. It was an easy fix and I am back on the road. It costs about $80 bucks to do it yourself.

I hope this helps.

if both lights went out at the same time i would go with silverfox's answer, but if its just one check the wireing in the headlight i worked on a car that the wireing was bad you can tell if you just wiggle the wire the light should turn back on.

I have the same problem with my 323. But my highbeam indicator light isn't always on it comes on when I turn my high beams on. My low beams will go on once in a blue moon and I can hear a click coming from near the glove box when they do. Can anyone explain to me what might be the problem?

also, I ordered a new switch for a ridiculous amount of money and it doesn't fit. One of the connectors fits but the other connector is different from mine. Also the mounting screws don't fit at all. Never buying from carid.com again. Apparently though it fits some 323's but some have a different switch. $100 shipping costs down the drain..

There are 3 contacts on these bulbs, they have two filaments that are essentially bridged, if either filament burns out the circicit is not complete. This can be tested by grounding the center contact then apply 12v hot to each other contact if it only lights on one of the outside contacts the bulb needs to be replaced.

Could you name the part you replaced. I believe I'm having the same issue.
