Default LED through cigarrette lighter

hey, i was wondering if it would be okay if i cut the wires to my cigarrette lighter and use them to power my LED's for lighting the floor. will this hurt my car at all or no? im pretty new to wiring so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I would not think that LED's draw much current. If you still have the original package see how much amperage it draws and make sure not to exceed the fuse limit. I would not cut the wires myself...I would just tap into that same wire so the lighter plug still works. You can buy these terminals that do just that at the auto parts. Are you also gonna install a switch on the lights or just they come on with the key?

i installed a switch with it. i asked the guy that i bought them from and he said it would be fine because they use almost no power, they look pretty cool but now im adding strip LEDs to the door panels and running the wires through the door.
