Default keys locked in car with car started

Hello,

I recently replaced the battery in my wife's 2003 Protege5. Then on a weekday she started her car to let it warm up, went inside to get some items, and when she went back to the car, the doors were locked...with the engine running!

Fortunately she was able to use the spare key to unlock the doors. To test it out, I unlocked the doors with the car off, but didn't open any doors. After 45 seconds or so, the doors locked automatically.

How can we adjust the power door lock settings so that they don't lock automatically??? I don't want her to lock her keys in the car again.

Thanks!

This sounds like it is an aftermarket alarm setup. I don't believe the Factory alarm will automatically lock the doors.

ha sadly that happend to me aswell on the way from Ohio to Nevada in some lonely town and there was only ONE locksmith who wanted to charge me $150.00 to open my car... luckly my father finally called me back and informed me that he stuck an extra key under my car and i could just use that, good timing too, i was rapping my arm in my jacket getting ready to break the window lol

*note: goood thing i didn't break the window cuz the next 12 hours where filled with rain, hail, and lots of snow

This is the way the 3's work from the factory (not sure about the protos though.) If you remotely unlock the door(s,) you must open at least one of them in 30 sec or the car will relock itself. However, after opening one of the doors (what you wife must've done to start the car) they stay unlocked.
Do you have an aftermarket alarm installed on this vehicle?
