Default idle Question

i have a 2002 mazda protege with 31450 miles very little auto

My question is when the car is cold i start it the idle very high and the idle goes up and down.

When the the car is warm after i drove like 20 min and i would come to a stop at a red light the idle would drop then come back to100 and then stop to 100.

any pointers thanks

Mine used to idle pretty rough also. Go to an auto store or walmart and pick up a can of Seafoam. You'll probably need to find another person unless you wanna just throttle it, but pour maybe half of the seafoam into a cup, disconnect the breaker line (should be clamped near the back of the engine bay), have another person keep the car at about 2 RPMS and gradually let the breaker line suck up the seafoam, let the car sit for about 5mins, reconnect the line, then start it up and you should have a smokeshow going from all the crap burning out of your lines and you should be reving on and off during this, after the smoke is gone for the most part find a road to redline it on and then the idle should be greatly decreased. With the other half a can or so of the seafoam, next time you fill up with gas just throw that in the tank. When i did this to mine it took away the hesitation issues that my car always had and took the idle from 1.5-2 RPMs to .5 RPMS when the cars warmed up after about 3 mins of driving.

Yup it works with any car although your breaker line may be in a different spot, same exact concept though.
