High pitched whine

Hi, I have a 2002 Mazda Protege and for the last month or so I have been hearing a whine. The best way I can describe it is almost like a turbo whine and I know for a fact I don't have a turbo. I also changed my oil on Sunday and it seems to be louder now. It only happens when I accelerate. Can anyone give me a clue to what this sound is?

I notice you live close to me. In case you don't know, Coyote Motors in Boulder is an amazing independent mechanic that specializes in Mazdas and Subarus. I've been taking my cars to this shop for 20 years. Wolfgang is now in semi-retirement, but Eric has stepped in with no drop off in expertise, ethics, honesty, etc. I cannot say enough good things. That said...

We all like fixing cars ourselves. Can you make the whine happen by revving the engine and the car remaining stationary?

I tried recording it but it won't attach the video.

You can take the alternator/AC belt off and take it for a quick spin. Maybe a bearing is failing?
