fuel pump?

so our '01 protoge has been acting up lately and i think it's the fuel pump. (i.e. it has had problems starting and have to give it some gas to get it going.) i've got questions. 1.)does this sound like a fuel pump problem? 2.) what's a good price to pay to get a new fuel pump installed? (the work will be done in the st louis metro area)

thanks a bunch!

RE: fuel pump?

I would not condemn the fuel pump unless you are seeing some low fuel pump pressure or fuel pressure drop concerns guitar73. How is the fuel pressure looking? There are some problems with the Mass Air Flow sensor that may give you a similar bunch of problems. Would wait on getting a new fuel pump untill you know for sure that you have any pressure/volume concerns with it.

RE: fuel pump?

i have no idea what the pressure from the pump is. we plan on taking it to a mechanic this weekend to have someone look at the car to see if they can figure it out. so basically it sounds like that it may be something other than the fuel pump. i'll let someone with the right tools to figure that out, lol! thanks for the insight!
