Door lock does not work

so on the passenger side door, my key goes in about halfway. so i cant control the lock from the outside at all. ive sprayed wd-40 and stuff in the keyhole but nothing, it still only goes in halfway. any suggestions on this? i just want to fix it so that if my chance i cant open the drivers side door from the outside, ill still be able to use the passenger one. thanks!

Sounds like there is a piece of key broken in the lock or the lock itself has fallen apart in there. If you are lucky, you can get the identical barrel from the dealer by giving them your VIN number. If it is the lock handle itself, you'll have to replace whole handle. Get one from a boneyard, then take it to a locksmith to get it rekeyed to match your present key... If it is a broken key, a real good locksmith might be able to get it out, or repair your current handle. All in all, depending on where you live, it should be any more than $75 ot $100 to put it all right.

Is the little flap door still in place that opens as you insert the key. Earler Proteges used a clearish plastic cover door that would break and then get pushed inside the key cylinder. There is a little kit available from Mazda (or used to be) that included and new metal door flap, cylinder cover, and spring for a very good price. Now if I could only find that part number for it as my parts dept as usual does not have a clue:eek:

there actually isnt a keyhole cover on either door. i think there is a metal one on the trunk, but on both the passenger and driver doors eithers either broken off or stuck inwards. i want to fix this but i dont want to rip the door apart at the same time.

Not much of any other way to remove the debris from inside lock cylinder than to take it out and take it apart and pick it out. Never found a way to do otherwise as trying to flush or blow with compressed air only pushes it further in. Sorry
