Crankshaft sprocket bolt---help!--important question?

I cant budge the thing by hand or with impact gun(crappy electric one).
So my question is i heard about putting a breaker bar or sumthing on it and turning the engine over.Well my car is pretty much gutted is it safe or ok to hook up the battery with my intake and its lines (fuel/exaust/coolant) unhooked and turn the car over with the key?????

Don't know if I'm qualified to give advice, but am in the middle of aTiming belt, crank seal, water pump, alternator job on a 2000 with 226k miles I just bought. I got the crank bolt off by using the starter. It worked. I had the plugs pulled (and coils) and valve cover off. It only took I turn of the key and it was loose. I couldn't break it loose with an impact wrench. 'Still got a long ways to go. 'Worrying about how to get that seal out, and if it's the only seal leaking.

Yes. I've done it twice now on different vehicles. This works great. Some people place the socket on the crank bolt and brace the ratchet against the frame or A-Arm. I used a 2" pipe extension and braced it against the ground. The pipe was about 3 ft long from a plumbing supply because when i braced it against car parts it slipped off. Didn't want to round over the crank bolt for obvious reasons. Set it up and crank the engine quickly a couple of times just to break the bolt free. Use the ratchet to complete the job. You can tell from the driver's seat when it has broken free.
