Cooling fans on 1998 protege
Hello all this is my first post and has come after hours of searching online to no avail. I bought a 1998 protege about a year ago, when i 1st bought it the ac and everything seemed to work really well. Well at the end of the summer neither fan would come on anymore, and if i was stuck in stop and go traffic the temp gauge would start to rise almost the red. I've found that if i turn on the fan it helps a little but i have to get going at speed before the temp lowers. I have temporarly hardwired the radiator fan to the battery if i have to go more than 30 miles. However i have no ac at all. This hasn't been a problem all winter, but i just moved to northern alabama and it is getting really really hot. The check engine light has never come either. Any imput would be greatly appriciated. bob |
I would be looking at the cooling fan relays (one for each fan) for the overheating, if in fact the fans do not turn on at all on their own.
The AC is another matter. could be a charge is needed, or a compressor. I would guess a charge without having any more information. Hmmm, scratch that, there are condenser fan relay's as well. Have you done any electrical work that may have inadvertently foiled the power to the relays? I'm leaning toward electrical on both issues now. Look for bad fuses, relays and grounds. Good luck! |
