Brake Warning Light
2001 Protege intermittent warning light.
First time this occurred the level was near the LOW mark so added fluid and light went away for a few weeks of in-town driving. Brake light came back ON and the level was infact low again. There are no leaks anywhere in the system (no wet spots in the driveway evident and all four corners are dry).
Front brakes seemed in good condition but the rear rotors had alot of grooving so replaced the rotors/pads even though there was plenty of material on the pads but figured we were that far into it might as well replace the parts. Was disappointed not to see more wear on the rotors or pads.
Question: what could be causing the brake fluid to drop, and/or the intermittent brake light?

My guess is it must be leaking. The brakes can't be wearing that fast. Have a close look at the front of the booster where the master cylinder bolts to it. Other than that a thorough brake inspection.
Only 3 causes of low brake fluid
Reading it incorrectly when you filled it
worn brake pads and or shoes
An undetected (in your case) brake fluid leak. You do realize that you need to raise the Mazda up off the ground and examine all the brake lines. Just because there is nothing on the ground does not rule out a leak.

Brief update: First of all i did not know this car used a hydraulic clutch and that it shared the brake fluid reservoir. The clutch master cylinder appears to have a small leak and will need replaced.
