advice on chipping my 02 p5?

Default advice on chipping my 02 p5?

id like to put a chip in my 02 protege5, but i thaught id get some tips first. are there any real cons to a chip? and any advice on the brand to use? how much power can i expect? i already have cai, headers, and cat back exaust. 2.0 dohc. 5 speed. thanks!

a lot of these chips are nothing more than a couple of resistors and diodes. i would recommend a mp3 ecu rather than a performance chip. the ecu will require you to run premium gas all of the time, but it is worth the sacrifice. you can usually find these for about $200 used. i will see if i can find you one and get back with you.

no rush. im currently job hunting. as soon as i get a couple checks tho, i wanna add some power. any idea on how much hp gain i can expect?

that's kind of dependant on mods and grade of gas, really. the mp3 ecu will respond to your mods better than your stock ecu because of the difference in programming. i have heard of people noticing immediate noticable gains and i have heard of people not noticing gains until after the first 25-30 miles after install.
