AC doesn't work with all fan speeds

2003 Protege5
175k miles

AC does not work with fan speed 2. Is this likely an issue with the fan speed switch? The fan blows when on speed 2, but the AC turns off.

Yes, it is related to the switch. You can replace it, but it will happen again. Instead build the circuit described at the following page: Mazda Protege Fan Detection Circuit Analysis - nikosapi.org wiki . It is super easy to make and will fix the problem permanently.
