Default 98 protoge air bag light problem & no horn.

Hello, I'm new to this forum and would like to know if anyone has experinced this problem. I'm driving into the driveway and all of a sudden I hear a snapping sound coming from the center plastic cover of the steering wheel, then the air bag light on the dash starts bliking 6 continuous times then stops for about 3 seconds and starts again with the same pattern. also i noticed that the horn does not work since that incident. has anyone experienced that? Does anyone know were is the relay for the horn or the fuse the manual does not seem to indicated. thanks in advance!

Flashcode 6 is indicating a fault in the drivers air bag circuit 98mazda. Sounds like your clockspring has broken. That was the noise you heard. The clockspring is located just under the steering wheel and is the device that allows electrical signals for air bag, horn, and cruise switch (if equipped and mounted on steering wheel) to be passed from the stationary steering column to the steering wheel. If it breaks internally then these electrical signals can no longer be transfered between steering wheel and column and air bag fault is set as well as horn failure.
