98 LX EGR Valve Code p0400

Hello Everyone,

A little while back my check engine light came on & found out the code was p0400. We took off the EGR valve sensor & cleaned/blew out the carbon build up, reset the computer. Everything seemed to work fine & then yesterday evening, the light came back on, so I went back to get the diag code, which ended up being the same issue again.

When trying to lookup some other things to try, one thing, which I don't think was done was to clean out the ports/holes that are on the engine side & to use brake or carb cleaner & compressed air to blow these out. My question here is, if I blow compressed air into 1 of the holes, will the carbon or buildup come out of the other hole or will it blow it back into the engine?

Also when trying to find things to do, it also mentions a boost sensor (or map sensor) based upon to me the car seems to be running & driving fine, could the issue be with the map sensor, or only if i was having a different problem?

The car doesn't die when the clutch is pressed down or there isn't any major differences on idle speed, etc.

Thanks

Chris

don't worry about that boost sensor thing thats only for cars with a turbo other than that you really have no boost only vaccum to worry about and which port holes are you mentioning? just so i have an idea, if its ideling really weird take out your map sensor it will be on the intake manifold it reads the air coming into the motor to make the calculation of how much fuel to send it that sensor has alot of build up it could not be reading right, that could be your problem
