Default 97 protege check engine/cps problems, plz help!

Hello everyone

So I am trying to pass inspection with my 1997 mazda protege (1.5l dohc)

My check engine light is on, and the code that came up was for a bad crank position sensor. Ok no big deal, so I bought a new one and replaced it, I took all the necessary steps before and after installing, disconnect battery, install part, waited an hour or so to reconnect battery etc etc.

When i fired up the car again the check engine light was off, but only for about 5 mins. I went back to Autozone to scan the car again, only to have the same CPS code, its a BRAND NEW part so i doubt it could be the part itself.

any ideas anybody? any help is GREATLY appreciated
