-94 idle problem...

i have an 94 soch and the thing is that it has 1000-1100rpm as idle when it is in gear, if you put it in Park then it jumps up to almost 1500rpm, Iwas wondering if anyone knows how to lower this, or what might be the problem...

Sounds like either the coolant temp sensor is not working properly, or you have a stuck idle control motor. If you have some mech skills, it would be best to remove the throttle body and clean it out, the idle control motor is also on the throttle body. The best thing to use is air intake cleaner. It can be cleaned while still on the car, but it can be cleaned better off the car, and will not flood the engine with cleaner fluid.

thx for your help, ill try to check thoes things out this weekend... I think the temp sensor is working atleast it shows on the temp gauge inside the car.. is there any way to check the sensor it self?

Ill take apart the trottle body, youthink I should clean it with say an K&N filter cleaner? or should I use an normal electric cleaner??

thanks alot for the tipps....

Make sure your throttle cable is not adjusted too tight as well. Also check the base idle speed before tearing too much apart.

K&N filter cleaner is not the same thing as air intake cleaner. Air intake cleaner is similar to carb cleaner. As far as the coolant temp sensor, there are two, one for the gage, and one for the computer. But do the things babyhuey said first.
