93 Protege A/C R12 to 134a conversion

Hi Guys!

Have 93 Protege LX DOHC with R12 A/C. I would like to convert it to R-134a. My question(s) is, after buying the retro-fit kit, Do I need to change the o-rings on the compressor only or the o-rings on the whole system (compressor and hoses)? Do I need to Change the compressor oil? Or can I just evacuate the system and add the R-134a?

Thanks in advance!

So i did some research and R13 runs at higher pressure than R12, so you may need a more suited compressor. If hoses are barrier hoses it should be good. What items does the kit include you mentioned?
I would flush it beforehand. hope this helped my friend

Thanks tinyestmantis for your reply and help!:)

The hoses are barrier hoses. What I meant about the kit was purchasing the retro-fit kit, I guess it would be the valve fittings. So do you think replacing the compressor to a newer model will do even though the one I have now is working?

stay cool

You are certainly welcome! The compressor ma or may not struggle, but if it does well at the moment it should last you. One thing i would suggest is to just keep checking the pressure and don't overfill it, and when you do fill it keep it just touching the green area of the gauge. stay cool!

There is no change in pressure, however, the o-rings in all the joints aren't compatible, also the seals/gaskets in the compressor aren't compatible either. So you either need to replace or rebuild the compressor.
