2003 Protege5 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Question
I just removed the stock header to a 2003 Mazda Protege5. I had an issue reconnecting the EGR Valve to the new headers because the stock headers had female threads and the new headers had a male thread. Due to time constraints I plugged blocked off the EGR valve. Right now it runs fine.
Now my question is will any long term effects come from blocking off the EGR valve or should I get it reconnected as soon as possible? Any help would be great! |
it will eventually throw an emissions code without the egr, but it won't affect the performance if you remove it the correct way.

I was already getting codes for the EGR before (it was probably on the way out) I bypassed it. I'm not in CA so I won't have to pass an emissions test.
After I remove it is there anyway that I can delete the code? |
I will have to look it up, but I think that you need to wire a resistor into the harness where the egr plugs in and put a block-off plate on the egr opening.
