2003 Protege Smells Like Rotton Eggs?
 

I have a 2003 Mazda Protege es 2.0 automatic that smells like rotton eggs when i drive my car going at a faster speed. I know that the smell is from the engine running rich but how do i stop that? Also when coasting my car feels like it sputters once in a while. Please help me.

the smell is from the cat, go run it hard for a min. or 2 and look under to see if the cat is glowing red, if it is its either clogged or your running pig rich

If im running rich what can i do to stop my car from running rich?

How is the engine idle? Smooth? Is the CEL on? (what codes?) What recent work was done on car?

No Check engine lights. i just bought car about 2 months ago. I noticed the smell like a week after buying car. I cleaned the egr valve, the hole intake manifold was replaced due to a recall on the car. but thats about it. Car does run pretty smooth. car doesnt idle to rough since i cleaned egr valve.

if your car is running rich. you can always invest in a air/fuel controller... cause the 03 mazda protege/MSP came rich from factory. dealerships offer a flash for the ECU which pretty much fixes it,, but it can cause more problems.
