2003 Mazda Protege. Fuel Pump not Priming

I have replaced the battery, starter, and fuel pump in the past 30 days. When I turn the key to the first, or second position the fuel pump does not prime. When I turn the car on the fuel pump works as it should, but because of the lack of a prime the engine cranks over 4-6 times before it starts. When it does start it runs great with no issues. I have looked at the relay in the fuse box labeled circuit or spv and also the main relay. I assumed one of these might be the issue but they both look okay. Any ideas what could cause this?

4-6 times cranking before starting is not outside of reason for most cars when cold especially older cars that have less compression due to wear.. And you cannot look at a relay and tell if it is working, you need to test it with a multi meter. Also you did not mention but I assume you did replace the fuel filter? If not do so immediately or you could ruin the new pump and void the warranty. If the engine was not primed, it would not start when cold. A cold engine must be primed with fuel to start. Carbs have chokes to cut off air and suck in raw fuel and fuel injection engines have cold start circuits to give the engine a shot of gas when starting cold. NEITHER will start if that does not happen. My neighbors almost new BMW takes 4 cranks to start.

When you say the pump isn't priming, what are you basing this statement on?
