2002 Protege5, need to know the deets.
Hey guys, new to this forum. I have a 2002 P5 and have added some bolt on mods. I would like to add more power and thought about buying a speed limit cutter and aftermarket clutch. Need to know how I can accomplish more power to the wheels. Any info would be great!

What's your budget?
How's the health of your stock engine/drive train? Did you check compression?
A cold air intake with high flow exhaust (header and CAT) are always good places to start.
After that, you can dump a lot of money squeezing out a few extra ponies.

I purchased a remanufactured engine about a year ago and it hasn't given me problems. Honestly I could not tell you the difference between a well running engine and poorly running engine with manual transmission and I have never had the opportunity to run a fresh engine with a fresh manual trans. But to me it runs good, I've taken It to about 100mph with no problem, i do see that i could use more power to the wheels. As of now i have bolt ons. Intake. Heads and exhaust. I know they made a mazdaspeed protege with turbo and different pistons and connecting rods and I was wondering if that would fit my P5. Thanks for your reply btw!

Yeah, that goes back to your budget. You can boost (pun intended) the HP to fairly high levels for such a small car with enough money. Don't ignore the drivetrain and suspension.
I had a Saab 900 Turbo for a while. For a 4 banger, it really moved. I still had to beef up the suspension to make sure it went where I pointed in.

Well, if you're going to go Turbo, you should look at a full kit. It will come with all the plumbing, hardware and other parts needed to "bolt on". You should also consider a catback exhaust to improve exhaust flow.
