2002 protege5 engine

I have a 2002 protege5 with a 2.0L in it. It is my understanding that there are 2 versions of this engine that can come in this year model vehicle. If so how can I tell which engine I have and which is the better engine. I have thoughts of someday replacing the current one ( it has 246,000 miles on it but still runs great ) with something with a little more bang to it. I have thought about maybe installing a turbo but I don't think that's such a good idea with this many miles on the current engine. I want something with more power that will still get good highway mileage due to the fact that I have a long commute to and from work. Any thoughts would be helpful.

there was only one motor in either year of protege 5. they are all 2.0 dohc 4 cylinders. you can swap for a klze v6 but its not easy. the only kl swaps that I have seen involved 2 ecus and two engine harnesses. not sure why, but that's the way they were. not a simple swap.

if you want more power, build a new 2.0 and turbocharge it.
