2001 Protege issues
Hey guy, I am at my witts end with this car, it has an issue where the car car gets low in fuel (about 1/4 tank left) and it behaves like it has completely run out. We have changed the tank, a new fuel pump and a new fuel assembly and it still does the same thing. and yes the car has fuel in it. If i put gas in the car it works like there is no issue at all. I am at a full lost.

What i might try and do is to put a long screwdriver on the top of each fuel injector and check if they are consistency on each one in each condition (full/low fuel). Also it might be the computer's fault, or the emissions system. I hope i can help. If you have any other questions let me know, and give as much information as you can :) lets try and get you to a full win!

Well, try this. Next time you run low and it starts to starve, stop, open the gas cap, don't add any gas, then close again and see if the runs.
That might work, coincidentally, I had filled my 90' protégé's tank and I had noticed it had been more difficult to start than before until I got gas last night and I took the gas cap off to hear a long swoosh noise and air being sucked into the fill tube, good idea :)

Is your check engine light on?
No, it does turn on randomly if I start it after a had driven it for a while and its warmed up, and it either goes away after I get into 2nd gear or in a few seconds, its short lived and only when im driving so its a little odd lol but its off most often.
Well, pull the codes and see if any are "Pending".
Is this the original gas cap, or a replacement?? Sounds like it is not venting.....just sayin
Was there a resolution on this? I had a Toyota Avalon that had a similarish problem that went away on its own. It dawned on me after the problem had stopped that it might be a venting issue. Never did get a chance to loosen the gas cap to see if that resolved the problem. That still bugs me!
