window handle removal

93 B2600. I'm trying to change the window regulators but I don't know if the handles have clips holding them in place or not. The repair manual says it shouldn't unless it's older which i take to mean 89 and older. Any advice is welcome.

Do you have manual wind up windows?

Yes it's manual windows.

I have a 1988 B2200.

Yes, there's a small horseshoe clip that slides into grooves in the handle itself, holds it onto a groove in the shaft. I use a tiny screwdriver or a small hook tool and grab the curved end to "pry" off; push inwards on the door panel in that area as you do this, you should be able to see the clip. Don't lose the clip; after its off, the handle just pulls off.

There's a tool for sale to help with this if you need it, have never tried that.

My old VWs use a single screw to keep the window crank onto the splined shaft there, easier design.
