Recently my oil pressure warning light started coming on when at low idle. Now it seems to come on and flicker at running speed when the engine is warmed up. I don't hear any alarming noise from the engine, so from what I gather it may just be the sending unit that is going wacky. How can I find this thing? Is it easy to replace? What else should I check?

It's a 1993, but the engine only has 130,000 Kilometers, so it shouldn't be an engine problem I would hope!!!

It's just left of the oil filter/cooler and a little bit up on the 2600. You can't see it or feel it until you get the relay bank out of the way. It's pretty much hidden behind the intake manifold support bar. You are going to need a 24mm deep well socket. No way to get anything else on it. I suggest that you might want to conceder putting in a oil pressure gauge. The "idiot light" pressure switch is $5.00. I got a gauge with the sending unit for $15.00 off e-bay. I feel a whole lot better looking down at my pressure gauge than wondering if my pump is working.

 

After looking over your post again, you might have a problem with low pressure. When was the last time you changed your oil and filter? There is aways the possibility that the pump shaft coupling has cracked. Check your oil level, if it's OK pull the oil filler cap off the valve cover. Start it up and you should be slinging oil all over the inside of the engine compartment. Like I said a gauge is a good idea. At start up, oil cold, you should be getting anywhere from 40 to 80psi. With the engine warmed up, 20 to 40psi. It also depends on the weight of oil you use. The heavier the weight the higher the psi. All of the above figures are ball park, + or - about 10psi. If you're running below 10psi at idle, I would be concerned.
