Default Recieving B2000 pickup......

Evidently i will be recieveing a 1987 B2000 as a birthday gift,

Is there anything I need to know (Recalls, performance, reliability issues) about this truck before I take under my wings?

From picture I recieved via e-mail the body looks straight with little to no rust, stereo is missing (orginal owner kept the aftermarket unit) hasn't been run recently and the clutch line evidently has a leak.

is this going to be a good vehicle or a lemon?

Anything would help,

Pete

You have asked some rather "loaded" questions. It is near impossible to know if it is a lemon to start. I would have to see and inspect to know that. Depends how reliable it might be depending on maintenance records. Has it been maintained? If not, you might want to do a complete tune up like plugs, cap, rotor, wires, gas filter etc... It would be best to do a timing belt too. Have a good mechanic check it out.

I have pictures of the truck and from what I can see, it looks fairly straight with little rust. The stereo is gone but the wires remain.

engine has about 40,000 miles on it, according to docs.

The clutch needs work by way of hose replacement and maybe master/slave cylinders.

The battery is discharged.

needs a good cleaning.

and thats all I know for now and will find out more gritty details later.

Well, I have more info and questions for you all.....

The engine has about 40,000 miles on it, but all the paperwork says is that the owner picked the engine up and does not list any other info.

I know the block should be FE, but is there any other numbers I should be looking for, and where do I find them?

The truck currently resides about 200 miles away and I have to refer everything through my father who is fixing the truck for me. (unexpected birthday gift).

There is a p/s pump on the current engine but is not hooked up, was there power steering offered in these trucks? (would give some clue to year of motor)

How difficult would it be to convert to power steering?

As simple as getting lines and a Power assist box?

Also there is a second set of seat bolts under the bench seat, was there a bucket seat option as well?

Included are some photos of the truck and interior (needs some scrubbin')

I have lots of other pictures, if you want to see them let me know and i will send/or post them.

BTW I will be posting any and all future questions on this truck in the Trucks forum.
