I have a 1987 B2000 P/U, The engine was replaced about 40.000 miles ago.

I want to know where i can find a list of block numbers so I can find out the year of the engine and if this engine is still a 2.0L.


The truck is curently two hundred miles away from me and I have to have all numbers emailed to me. Where the block casting numbers would be and who can decipher them.

Okay, well.....

i have the VIN number from the truck and decoded apropriately.
It is truely a 1987 Mazda B2000 Pickup, Standard bed.


I have a number from the carburetor sticker that says N FE85.

Also still need to find out where the block numbers would be.

If the tag on the carb is it, then it maybe a 1985 motor.

Can someone tell me otherwise?

Well the problem is the vin number says what the truck had from the factory and the engine may have been replaced by a short block meaning the head, intake, and exhaust manifolds may be the original. The intake manifold number you gave is a 2.0 casting (although I've never found any differences between them) The 85 may be the year or just a revision number.

To read what block it is look under the exhaust manifold in the top center of the block it will either say 2+0 or 2+2. 2+0 is the 2.0 liter and 2-2 is the 2.2 Liter F2 block.

The casting number is suppose to be on the front of the block on the driver side going verticle I think. If your standing above it I think it looks like it is beside the distributor on the engine block, look for a flat spot. I don't know how to read the numbers, factory manual just says where it is located and for some reason my truck doesn't seem to have one so I've never seen one to try to decipher it. Someone on my forum might know more.

This helps emensely. I will going to look at the truck in person this weekend, and if all goes well, drive it back too. Otherwise my father will continue working on it.

The battery did take a charge, so it should at least turn over with-out a problem. (according to the original owner, it was started last week.)

Clutch hoses are next to be replaced, from there the truck should be drivable.

I have an E-mail out to Mazda corp, so i should hopefully receive a list of numbers for these engines.
