Mazda - please develope a new electric truck powered by Solid State batteries
 

I would like to see Mazda design and sell to the public an electric truck (and other vehicles) featuring the upcoming revolutionary "solid state batteries".

One of the biggest drawbacks to owning a truck is the significantly decreased fuel efficiency over a car. Cost of fuel every week is the single biggest factor keeping me from owning a truck. This holds true for many people.

One of the biggest drawbacks to owing an all electric vehicle today (2017) is something called "range anxiety". Basically, the fear that a vehicle has insufficient range to reach its destination and would thus strand the vehicle's occupants due to the current state of batteries in 2017.

In 2017, the all electric range of the Telsa model S is 335 miles, the Telsa model X is 295 miles and the Chevy Bolt is 238 miles. Basically, while this will be fine for everyday trips for most, long trips may likely need a charge mid trip if longer than 200 miles due to factors such as temperature and state/age of battery. People worry that they will not be able to find a charging station mid trip and they are concerned about the charge time required mid trip.

The average mile per gallon of vehicles in 2017 is 23.6 MPG. The average fuel tank size is 14 gallons.
23.6 MPG X 14 (gallons) is 330 miles per tank on average for fuel combustion vehicles for 2017 vehicles.

Multiple mainstream news and tech websites/outlets have recently written articles on the potentially game changing “solid state battery” and it advantages over current 2017 battery tech (such as Lithium Ion batteries). Fisker is getting into the “solid state battery game with patents. Here is an article from Engadget:

Some of the advantages of solid state batteries are:

- Fisker claims the batteries it's developing have an energy density 2.5 times that of current batteries, and they should be capable of providing a 500 mile driving range
-The batteries could be recharged in as little as a minute
-lower estimated cost than conventional lithium-ion batteries
- Very little risk of fires or explosions

Mazda is a wonderful car company that, despite being one of the smaller guys, over the years, they are constantly developing new technologies and are often on the forefront of automotive technology compared to their much larger peers. This has lead some to say that Mazda is the "driving enthusiasts brand". Mazda consistently pushed the envelope of improving automotive tech even while larger players are afraid too. Therefore, Mazda is the perfect vehicle company to pursue the path of an electric vehicle using solid state batteries.

With the advantages of solid state batteries (see above), I would like to see Mazda develop electric vehicles such as a Mazda 6 and in this case a truck with the solid state battery.
