Mazda B2200 V8 swap
Hi all. Nice forum. Thought I share a bit.
In 97 I bought a 1992 Mazda B2200 for 800 bucks. After several years of service the engine failed. So the truck has been sitting on the back lot since 2005. During this time I run a 86 ford mustang coupe on the strip. Decided the pull the 347 and C4 tranny out and build something new. This engine produces 500 HP.
My 19 year old son approached me and said, Dad, let’s fix up the Mazda. So guess were this is headed lol. I have installed the motor and tranny in the pickup. Very little mods were done to achieve this. First was to pull the stock cross member and fabricate a new one with an inch and a half drop to clear the oil pan. Next was to cut new slots In the chassis to accept the stock ford motor mount studs. I used the ford stubby headers from a stock 85 5.0 mustang. Had plenty of clearance on the swap.
Until I went to install the radiator. That is when the problem arose. The water pump shaft is way to long to get clearance to the radiator. So thinking, oh well, I will buy a short pump. I spent 5 hours and 4 different part stores yesterday and still have not found a short pump. Have to keep looking I guess. Used to go to a junk yard and find this stuff. Not anymore.
Well as time progresses I will post pictures if anyone is interested. This will be one sweet ride when completed.

That is a ver sweet ride I am thinking of doing the same except mines coming from a f-150 4X4. I wanted to take and turn mine in to a 4 wheel drive. Do you think I would run in to too many issues when doing this? I would like to make it in to a play toy. And should I leave it carborated or should I go to fuel injection the Mazda is carb but the 302 is fuel injection and I can't decide which way I want to go. I really need advice on his from someone who's already done the 302 swap in one.

Interesting, If you been following, the Spike TV show "Trucks" (project Rolling Thunder) has been doing much the same thing with a Marauder engine, but they expect to track the truck so they are going to extremes. I've been following the build with interest.
What about installing an electric water pump?

SLEEPER !
A sleeper is a car that has high performance and an unassuming exterior. Sleeper cars are termed such because their exterior looks little or no different from a standard or economy-class car. While appearing to be a standard or neglected car, internally they are modified to perform at higher performance levels.
