Default High mileage/ maint. Performance advice

I have a 99 b3000 Troy lee. 3 liter. It's got 270,000 miles on it. I want to make it last as long as possible as well as pick up a lil performance..I had to replace head gasket at about 200k. Other than that it's been a great truck with just reg replacement things like alt, batt ect....it's all bone stock and still going..does anyone have any advice on things I need to replace or check on? It needs a clutch put in cause it grinds a bit(just wore out I guess) ..I bout a replacement kit but have not put it in yet....any advice would be greatly appreciated"...I love this ol truck and want to keep it around...lol

Regular oil and filter changes, coolant and transmission and differential gear oil every few years.

As to the clutch: check/bleed the clutch hydraulics (clutch master and clutch slave cylinder), your issue does NOT sound like a worn out clutch (that symptom would be slippage where the engine revs up and truck doesn't correspondingly speed up).

Or your shift bushing(s) under the gear shift (plastic) could be plain worn out.

Thanks for the reply Cusser...are the shift bushings hard to replace? Also, I have often wondered if it may be time to do away with the cat converter...that thing is bound to be stopped up....thanks.

On most vehicles, shift bushings are routine, and not expensive. What about 1983-2011 Ford Ranger Manual Trans Shifter Repair Kit - Dorman 917-551 - - PartsGeek.com

What's a Troy Lee?
