Default a/c quit

OK, I'm new here, but I tried to search the forum before posting. So if I've missed something obvious, I'll try to do better. I have a 91 B2200 which up to yesterday had VERY cold a/c. Yesterday I stopped to jump off a lady who needed help. Everything was fine for the jumpoff, no sparks, no problems. The idle speed didn't even drop when she started her car. When I got back in I realized the a/c had quit. Now I have a dead short across the a/c fuse--blows the second I put it in. It also blows the fuse no matter whether the a/c button is in or out, and even with the switch turned off and the key out of the truck! I thought that was a switched circuit--can somebody tell me what's going on? I bought this truck in May and it didn't come with an owner's manual, so I don't have a schematic. Any help, ideas, or wild stabs in the dark are appreciated. I'm in Alabama and the humidity here is everything you ever heard it was, and then some. And no, you don't get used toit just because you grew up here. Thanks!

Default RE: a/c quit

Very odd that it blows with the key off so i would start by pulling the steering column cover and check the back of the ignition switch for melted solder contacts. Disconnect the compressor from the circuit and see if it blows the fuse. By disconnecting components one at a time you should be able to find it by process of elimination.
